Mail Server Port Policy

Mail Ports are Restricted

For security reasons, we block common mail ports by default on all VPS instances. This policy helps prevent spam and abuse from compromised or misconfigured servers.

Default Port Configuration

The following outbound mail ports are blocked at the network level:

PortProtocolServiceStatus
25TCPSMTPBlocked
465TCPSMTPSBlocked
587TCPSubmissionBlocked

Mail Reception

Incoming mail ports (143, 993, 110) remain open by default. You can receive mail without special configuration.

Requesting Mail Port Access

To request mail port activation for legitimate services, follow these steps:

1. Configure Reverse DNS

Ensure your VPS has a valid reverse DNS (PTR) record matching your mail server's hostname.

bash
# Check your current PTR record
dig -x YOUR.IP.ADDRESS +short

# Example output:
# mail.yourdomain.com.

TIP

If no PTR record exists, create one first using our rDNS configuration guide.

2. Prepare Anti-Abuse Measures

Before requesting port access, set up these essential anti-abuse configurations:

  • SPF records in your DNS
  • DKIM signing configuration
  • DMARC policy
  • Rate limiting in your mail server

3. Submit Port Access Request

Open a support ticket with the following information:

Subject: Mail Port Access Request - [Your VPS ID]

- VPS ID: [your-vps-id]
- Server IP: [your-ip]
- Mail Hostname: [mail.yourdomain.com]
- Required Ports: [25/465/587]
- Anti-abuse measures in place:
  ✓ PTR record configured
  ✓ SPF record added
  ✓ DKIM configured
  ✓ DMARC policy set

4. Implementation

After verification, our team will:

  1. Review your anti-abuse configurations
  2. Open the requested ports
  3. Confirm activation via ticket response

Important

Mail port access is granted at our discretion. Maintain proper server security and monitor for abuse. We may revoke access if spam or abuse is detected.

Best Practices

  • Use authenticated SMTP (port 587) with TLS encryption
  • Implement strict authentication requirements
  • Monitor mail logs for unauthorized access attempts
  • Keep your mail server software updated
  • Configure proper SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records
